Learning. Experiencing.

About GMT

Global Medical Training is an international non-profit organization that volunteers in rural areas of Central and South America. We aim to improve access to medical care in poor and developing countries. Local doctors treat patients, while GMT members have the opportunity to learn from and gain exposure to health care on a global scale. Students learn about diagnoses and treatments with the help of a local translator. Additionally, we assist with clinic set-up, take vitals, distribute personal hygiene items and other donations, and participate in health education outreach for the people we serve. While maintaining ethical standards, students obtain training in basic clinical skills, learn about common ailments of the areas that are visited, and develop a strong sense of teamwork.

In addition to clinic days, Tour Day allows for cultural exposure and exploration. Past trips have included activities such as sand boarding, visiting active volcanoes, swimming in lagoons, and exploring local markets.

Additional information can also be found at the official GMT international website: gmtonline.net (link below)
