If you're reading this, you probably have a few questions about Global Medical Training - Check out this page to see what we're all about!

COVID-19 Update: The next anticipated trip for Mizzou GMT is May 2022 and is subject to change.

What do we do?

Global Medical Training (GMT) is an international humanitarian organization that provides free medical and dental care to communities in Central America. It's a great way to get a different, expanded perspective of health care, as well as learn about the social, cultural, and political factors at play. Mizzou GMT is just one of many chapters located on college campuses throughout the United States. We host trips during both winter and summer breaks.

You can read more about GMT here: https://gmtonline.net/what-is-gmt/about-us

How do I join?

The best way is to monitor our social media for upcoming events and information sessions in the beginning of the fall and spring semesters for upcoming trips. You can also send us any questions using the form located here: Contact Us. There will be several information sessions that are spread out so that you can attend one that fits your schedule (and don't worry, you're not committed to signing up for anything at the information sessions!). If you decide that you're interested in going on a trip, we'll send you an application by email. Once all the applications are in, you'll sign up to be interviewed. If you're accepted (fingers crossed!), we'll get you started with the registration process. There will be three mandatory meetings you'll have to attend when registering so we can get you prepared! We also welcome return trippers.

What fundraising do we do?

We'll have canning sessions, homecoming events, profit-shares, and other fundraising activities throughout the semester to obtain donations for medical supplies, etc. We also use a points-based system, a key component of your application, to help you keep track of your involvement throughout the semester - More points makes you a stronger candidate!

How much does it cost to go?

You can check the exact costs of the trips on the GMT trip registration page (Don't actually start registering yet unless you've been sent confirmation that you've been accepted for a trip!): https://gmtonline.net/trips/upcoming-trips

How long are the trips?

The trips are 1-2 weeks long in duration.

Do you need prior experience?

Not at all! We'll have skills training sessions prior to the trip and you'll also get more training by physicians during the trip. Spanish language skills are not a requirement as you'll be working with translators.

What's the timeline like for the application process?

We realize that you might want to know when things are happening so that you can get a good idea of how the semester prior to the trip will go. We'll determine the exact dates for everything towards the beginning of the semester and convey them to you during the information sessions and through emails.

Approximate dates for the spring 2022:

Applications will be due around the end of [TBD]. Interviews will follow shortly and you should hear from us around the start of [TBD]. Payment for the trip will be due during the end of [TBD].
